Tashkent Khokimiyat opened registration for “Investor Day”; EUROCEMENT group to invest US$200 million to projects in Uzbekistan; Deputy Prime Minister holds talks with representatives of SOCAR and BP; Trade facilitation issues discussed in Tashkent;
“Investor Day” will be held on 2nd February in the Khokimiyat building. The press service of the city administration announced the start of accepting applications from entrepreneurs.
On this day, investment projects and proposals in the industrial sector will be considered. “Investor Days” dedicated to other industries – services, real estate construction and others, will be held in the coming weeks, the date of which the Khokimiyat will announce later.
To participate in the event, entrepreneurs must fill the application form at the link and provide detailed information about the proposed project with all related files (photos, charts, illustrations). Registration for the event is required. Applications are accepted until January 31.
Russia’s Eurocement Group will invest US$200 million in its investment projects in Uzbekistan in the coming years. This became known after meeting with company president Mikhail Skorokhod at Chamber of Accounts of Uzbekistan.
The largest project is construction in Tashkent region of a new technological line for production of cement with a capacity of 3 million tons per year on the basis of Akhangarancement.
Foreign direct investment is estimated at US$160 million. Another US$40 million will be spent on the modernization and reconstruction of the plant building materials and structures, the organization of the production of concrete products, refractory bricks and insulation materials in Tashkent.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov and representatives of SOCAR (Azerbaijan) and BP (Great Britain) held negotiations, the press service of Uzbekneftegaz said. The meeting was organized in order to discuss further directions to expand bilateral cooperation.
It was noted that partnership with SOCAR and BP is a priority for the oil and gas industry of Uzbekistan. Among the topical issues – attracting foreign direct investment without the participation of third parties.
On this basis, representatives of foreign companies were invited to explore the possibilities of joint geological exploration of the Aralomorsk, Samsko-Kosbulak and Baiterek investment blocks of the Ustyurt region.
Representatives of the delegations expressed their interest and briefed about the meetings, held on this issue in joint-stock companies “IGIRNIGM”, “Uzbekgeofizika” and “UzLITIneftegaz. The need for seismic and geophysical work was emphasized following a study of the materials provided on these investment blocks.
A seminar “Actual issues of implementation of the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation in Uzbekistan and the obligations arising from it” was held on 23-24 January 2019 in Tashkent city.
The purpose of the seminar is to highlight the recommendations and procedures for implementation of the “WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation” (WTO SUPP), which is one of the mandatory agreements of the World Trade Organization.
The seminar was attended by representatives of ministries and departments involved in the regulation of foreign trade, as well as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and business associations of Uzbekistan.
The workshop participants familiarized themselves with the main provisions and recommendations of the Agreement, discussed the impact of trade procedures on the cost of cross-border trade, and studied the experience of other countries in the implementation of the WTO SADT. The focus was on discussing issues related to the implementation of the Agreement in Uzbekistan, requirements for the accession process and potential implementation scenarios.
