The EU to invest in Central Asia for the long term
“The EU believes in the prospects of Central Asia and intends to invest in this region for the long term”, said Luc Devin, the head of the European External Action Service for Russia, Eastern Partnership and Central Asia.
Last week, the European Commission announced the EU strategy for the development of the interface between Europe and Asia, proposing initiatives to strengthen ties between regions through compatible transport, energy and digital networks. The strategy indicates that in the coming decades Asia will need more than 1.3 trillion euros a year in infrastructure investments to maintain the current growth and adaptation to climate change.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to set up a JV to transport container cargo by itinerary China – Central Asia
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to establish a joint venture that will conduct container transportation by rail to the PRC – Central Asia, Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.
Such arrangements were achieved during the recent visit of the Kazakh delegation to Tashkent. Railway administrations of the two countries will be responsible for organizing the enterprise.
In addition, the countries agreed to prolong tariff preferences for the carriage of rail freight, which operated in 2018, for another year; and they agreed on the opening of the Uzbekiston Temir Yollari Agency in the cities of Astana and Aktau.
Shoe production with Belarus JV to be launched in Uzbekistan
The production can be launched in Uzbekistan in 2019; now the parties are engaged in registration, design and equipment selection processes.
The construction agreement was signed during the official visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Uzbekistan. Belarusian technology will be used for new production.
The President of Belarus visited Uzbekistan from September 12 to 14; he had discussions with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and he also had an opportunity to be the first foreign leader to visit the personal residence of the head of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan and Hungary will open national shops and restaurants in the capital cities
In Tashkent, a Hungarian shop and restaurant will be opened; while an Uzbek shop and restaurant of will be opened in Budapest, the press service of the khokimiyat. Parties signed the protocol on the intentions of opening national stores in May 2018.
Regarding the coordination of issues related to the implementation of this project, the city administration of Tashkent hosted the extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of Hungary Santo Peter and the director of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kovacs Özhefa.
Uzbek President to visit India next week
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will embark on his maiden state visit to India next week and a number of agreements in political and economic sectors are expected to be signed during his visit.
The Uzbek President is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Modi, as well as Indian government officials.
The visit marks a new chapter in Indo-Uzbek ties and a future that is rich in programs of bilateral cooperation. Strengthened over the past few years, this mutually prosperous relationship has led to several high-level, multi-sectoral delegation visits, paving the way for this momentous meeting. A series of contracts and agreements set to boost trade ties between the two countries are expected to be signed during this period.
Uzbek leader to attend CIS summit in Dushanbe
On 27-28 September 2018, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will attend the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CHS CIS) in the city of Dushanbe.
The agenda of the summit includes a wide range of issues related to the current state and prospects for further development of multilateral cooperation in various fields.
The Heads of States will also consider issues of chairmanship in the Commonwealth in 2019, the venue and date of the next meeting of the CHS CIS, exchange views on the current regional and international issues.
